About Powder Monkey Brewing Co.
Powder Monkey Brewing Co. is a craft brewery in Gosport, Hampshire, built inside a restored 19th-century naval gunpowder store at Priddy’s Hard.
Founded in 2019, the brewery began when our Co-Founder Andy discovered the long-abandoned building and saw its potential to become something special. What followed was a full transformation — bringing new life to a historic space and creating a modern, efficient brewing facility.
The name “Powder Monkey” is a nod to the young sailors who once carried gunpowder aboard naval ships — a piece of history that still shapes everything we do today.
Working alongside Head Brewer Mark, the brewery was carefully designed from the ground up, with a focus on quality, consistency, and great-tasting beer. We brewed our first beers in 2021, and have been crafting a range of cask and keg beers ever since, including pale ales, IPAs, and amber ales.
Today, Powder Monkey is more than just a brewery. Our Gosport site is home to a waterside taproom, shop, and visitor experience — a place to drink fresh beer where it’s brewed.

With a solid understanding of all disciplines within the businesses Andy knows the day to day challenges the team are faced with and is well placed to guide and support them with a hands-on approach. Steve Thompson MBE Director & Brand AmbassadorSteve started his Rugby career in Northampton, before playing for England and the British & Irish Lions. The World Cup winning Hooker put his name to our Hop & Hooker range. Steve plays a key role in the team in terms of supporting and promoting the brands in his role as Ambassador, and loves to spend time in the brewery and in trade when possible. Now leading as our Armed Forces Sales Manager, Nick plays a key role in building relationships within the Armed Forces community, driving growth, and expanding the reach of Powder Monkey beers. With a proven track record of delivering results, Nick combines commercial focus with strong leadership, ensuring high standards, productivity, and continued success.
